About our Patron Saints

Orthodox Christian Church of St. Edward the Martyr and St. Paraskevi of Rome, in Liverpool, United Kingdom

Saint Edward the Martyr

King Edward, the son of King Edgar, was a true Orthodox Christian, had a good and holy life, and was seen as a champion of the faith of Christ, protecting the churches and monasteries, this being the reason why he was martyred in 978. He is one of the most loved Saints of the British Isles and the last Orthodox Christian King from England. Our Church aims to revive the Orthodox Christian faith, linking the missing chain of Orthodoxy over the times, having the protection of the last Orthodox Christian King of England, Saint Edward.

Saint Paraskevi of Rome

Saint Paraskevi of Rome is venerated as a Christian martyr of the 2nd century. She was arrested and tortured under the reign of the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius for her refusal to worship idols.Though he eventually released her after she performed a miracle that cured him of his blindness, she was arrested later on multiple occasions for her Christianity. During the tortures, no pain seemed to affect her, and her endurance caused many to convert to Christianity. She was a truly Christian, travelling from city to city preaching the Faith in the Roman Empire. She was eventually beheaded by the Roman governor Tarasius for her faith in Christ. Our parish has Saint Paraskevi as a protector and model in preaching the True Faith by aiming to confess the Orthodox teachings among people and enlighten them about the Orthodox faith.
